Arik Air comes up with New Air Craft
Arik Air, the growing airline of Nigeria has taken delivery of a new aircraft Boeing 737-80NG increasing its fleet to 26. This is the newest and the largest aircraft owned by the company so far. The aircraft arrived at Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Lagos direct from the Boeing Corporation, Seattle USA. Earlier in February 2009, the company already has taken delivery of two Boeing 737-700. This one was first of the two other aircrafts that were to be delivered to Arik Air in March 2009. Commenting on the acquisition of the aircraft, the company’s Sales and Marketing head, Mr. Suraj Sundaram, said: “This is a proud moment for us as we take delivery of our first B737-800 NG aircraft, graduating from our current fleet of Boeing 737-700s and 737-300s, continuing our commitment of utilizing the most advanced technology to maintain our leading position in the market. With us, guests can always be assured of flying the most modern and superior aircraft in the industry, both in terms of efficiency and comfort. This aircraft will enable introduction of new routes within Africa to cater to the requests of our growing customer base.
” This aircraft, 737-800 is the new and improved version of 737-400, with all the luxuries and facilities of the earlier versions. It has a better and more spacious passenger cabin, a flight deck featuring the most versatile display system offered on any commercial jetliner and enhanced and superior in performance. This Boeing aircraft which comes with a customized entertainment for each passenger can carry 148 passengers, 16 in business and 132 in economy class. Arik Air’s modern state-of-the-art fleet of 26 aircraft will now be made up of two Airbus A340-500, two Boeing737-300, eight Boeing 737-700, one Boeing 737-800, four Bombardier CRJ900, two Hawker HS 125-800XP, three Bombardier Q300 and four Fokker 50.
